Why Should I Be Doing Homework?

“Because I said so,” says every parent.  Homework is one of those things in life that you can’t avoid and has to be done if you want to get good grades or get into a good college.  Most students don’t want to do their homework because the lack the motivation to get it done but there are some ways that students can find that motivation.  Using these suggestions will help you complete your homework faster and give you the motivation to get it done.

Suggestions On How To Get Your Homework Done

• Do most of your homework in school.  This means if you have a study hall do your homework then, do it at lunch, or on the bus ride home.  Doing most of your homework in school gives you more free time at home and gives you the opportunity to ask for help if you need it.
• Don’t procrastinate on doing your homework.  This gives you more stress then actually doing it because you worry about it more, so do it right after school.
• If you are working on something that will take a long time to complete or you have multiple assignments, take breaks every hour for about five to ten minutes or in between assignments.
• Consider the ramifications if you don’t do your homework. You will get bad grades, you’ll be held back a grade, or you might get detention for not completing your assignments.
• Make sure that the place where you do your homework is quiet and has little distractions.  Turn off the television, your cell phone, and disable the Internet unless you will need it but be careful not to get distracted on it.
• Working in a clean environment can help you do your homework.  Clean off your desk and pick up around your room but don’t use this as an excuse to procrastinate.  Don’t clean your room from top to bottom for three hours and forget your homework.
• Listening to soft music might help you stay focused on your homework.  Instrumental or classical music might relax you enough to get your homework done.
• Start a homework routine, do it the same time every night in the same place and after a while it will become easier to do your homework.
• Prioritize your homework, start with the hardest assignment and if you get stuck you can set it aside and do another assignment and come back to it.  This will ensure that you get that subject done and you won’t be up late doing it.
